Smokers are more vulnerable to COVID-19

Smokers are more susceptible to COVID-19.

Citing a 2020 World Health Organization (WHO) statement, DOH Philippines c/o Dr. Beverly Lorraine Ho, Director of the Health Promotion Bureau, explained that smokers, whose immune systems are already compromised, are likely to be more susceptible to COVID-19. The act of smoking means that fingers and possibly contaminated cigarettes are in contact with lips which increases the possibility of transmission of virus from hand to mouth.
